Moving layer order sometimes I can other times I cant?

Hi

I come across something odd.  I noticed that at times I can move the order of motion layers or even animation layers above the very top one, yet other times I cant?  I tried to make the same scene twice and one works the another dont.  Im sure its simple.

While Im head instead of creating a new post, cant the feet be pined to stop feet sliding for motion clips, I was thinking of constraints keying their strength?

Here is a video

Thanks,  Dan

Edit: it happens with the Automatic Mode on. /edit.

Hi Dan,

Please open a new Timeline, e.g., F-Curve, and there go to the Motion System.
Screen capture (one minute):
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/OnUGewaYf7A8EkMR1JJ8tvjx4LL34lmrlZHfwgrDyp8

All should work as expected in the new time line. No idea at the moment why that works/doesn’t works.
I will file a report, and I hope this is soon just a memory, i.e., fixed.

Thanks for the video.

All the best

Found it!

Please check if the Time Line Menu: View> Automatic Mode does it.

Automatic mode off and things seems to work in the way you have described it.

If you mean within the Motion tag Mixing mode =  Automatic it seems to make no difference.  I loaded the animation template which has issues.  I undocked the whole timeline animation area and opened a new timeline from Windows menu.  I docked that where the last one was and its fine, so it seems there is a issue with the template for animation.

Try loading my layout and see if it works?

Dan

I have already redefined the Automatic suggestion, thinking of our last discussion.

In the time line: View>Automatic.

I will make a little clip.

Got it.  Just saw your edit.  Yep thats it, thanks for the help, knew it was something simple, is this documented by any chance, maybe it needs to be?

Thanks, Dan

Thanks, Dan, for your patience.

Here is the clip.

It is not documented nor even hinted that it would affect the Motion System in that way.
Yes, that is in need to be clearer, but you are the first one to point that out since it was integrated.

My best wishes

Thanks, Again.

As Im learning the motion system Im going into it as thorough as I can, as I also do in other areas.  Im in what you could say “Beta Mode”  Iv been a beta tester for quite a few peices of software in the past so I try to test things from all directions in actual use.  I think its so easy to assume something is going to work, but its when its applied to a real world situation is were things come up, limitations show, and bugs reveal themselves. All good fun, and a huge learning experience.

Thanks, Dan

Yes, Dan, that beta mode feeling is certainly a good perspective to take, as it assumes that either the knowledge or the applications could be the problem. Whereby the knowledge in alpha or beta testing is often limited by the spare information one has gotten.
I never assume even today that the things I know are up-to-date, hence why I try it each and every time again – practically. Things, as you know, change. Then there is the idea of common practice and ideal practice. Also here, I never assume to know it all. In fact no one does, and only bullies would extrapolate from a short failure that the rest is equally flawed. To read through the (?) 3,000++ pages, assuming they where printed, isn’t everyone’s favorite work. Back in time, while the books where printed, I read them every few years cover to cover. Since then the amount has certainly grown and not shrunk.

Anyway, the magic is in the combination of all possible options, functions and tools, as well as objects. Which results in a nearly infinite number of possibility. No-One knows all of these, and certainly doesn’t go through all with each new release. So, I hope my little delay in finding the “cause” like in the above was fast enough. wink Thanks for your cooperation and patience.

Cheers.
