Circles radiating outward…

Hi all,

I need to visualize a series of processes of radiation (of waves…)

I want to have a point radiate concentric circles outward and even fade away over distance. In after Effects I could use the wave function but I would like a more stylized way where I can control a set of outward radiating (animating) rings. However this appears not to be as easy as I thought.

I cannot generate a sequence of circles that ‘grow’ over time.

First I thought a particle system from a point but there seems no way to ‘beam’ out circles from a point.

Also I would need to visualize ‘shadow areas, where these waves are blocked by obstructing objects.

Maybe I am asking too much but do any of you have a suggestion?

Thanks in advance!
Albert

Hi Albert,

The Circles and the Particles are two elements? Or—was the particle a set up with Ripple?

If you have anything to share, a sketch or something like that, … would be nice. A sketch can be rough and “stick figure” like!

I will set up something, then you can tell me what doesn’t work—and we go from there.

Think of the Formula Shader for a moment, or Gradient.

Talk to you soon.

Thanks for the PM and the sketches, Albert!

I have attached a zip file which contains five different ways to do 2D [flat] waves.

A bounce from a specific object and not from others or from all is perhaps not possible in C4D with native/default tools. I would define those manually, and allow so for aesthetically and time based adjustments. A while back we had that question, as a member of Cineversity was working on an audio visualization for a tutorial series.

If these waves have to be 3D, then sorry, my misunderstood. But that would be then Spheres, perhaps growing and placed under an MoGraph - MoInstance eventually with an Fresnel shader to allow for spatial visibility according to a specific point of view.

If one or the other example is not clear, I’m happy to give a more detailed idea about. In short, the larger the file number, the simpler it is to set up, at least to my understanding. In one file I use the UV Peeler, as in this clip that I did for my Google Followers.

Please let me know if you need something more or different, I’m happy to share more ideas (if I get some in the definition of the request ;o)

P.S.: I guess file _41 is the fastest to set up and the easiest to adjust.
So, here some tips

You can download the clip. It is small and only a minute long.

Thank you Sassi!

I will dive through the material this day. The nice, simple elegant mapping solution is very good. I had hoped it could be that simple but I could not solve this puzzle in my mind. Your example is great and clear!

I will now investigate your other examples…

Thanks very much again and have a good day!

Thank you very much, Albert.

The power of the p"projections” in Cinema 4D is certainly huge. I use it al lot for my photography work

https://youtu.be/T_iyfeUXyro

Since C4D is all the way 32bit/channel and can render in sizes and qualities, with image parameters pretty much any image app can only dream about ;o)

Not to push my “other” stuff here, but since it is related

https://plus.google.com/collection/kV0vZ

I have created a lot of image converters, e.g., from Equirectangular to Little Planets (which I create since nearly two decades), or to other projections, Mercator, or just Cylindrical, or anything back to rectangular. It is a pleasure to be able to set up my own “converters” with C4D. Perhaps I should wrap them up and share them one day exclusively here perhaps. :o)

Enjoy
