Importing xref from content browser and thumbnails problem?

Hi,

I’m building a lot of interiors with plenty of xrefs in each scene.
Now I have to load each xref file separately. Add xref object, link other *.c4d in xref object tab, choose only one from file explorer.
After installing R17 many of *.C4D thumbnails disappear, and while choosing xref to load I can’t see what I’m choosing.

So, it is possible to load scene from content browser as xref?
It would by nice to be able to load multiple files as xrefs at once.
If there is no option to do this, can I add manually that kind of entry to popup menu (when You right click on to object in CB) ???

And how to fix no thumbnail problem?
I have reinstall R17 but that didn’t help.

I attach two pictures to illustrate problem.

Thanks for help.

Hi Maksym M,

I have tried to reproduce your problem. I have used R16 and R 15 files, but I have the Icon-preview and all works as I would expect it.

My research showed that this is not a typical behavior of R17, in the way you describe it.

I’m not supposed to work on technical problems here, for that the support is exclusively there for:

http://www.maxon.net/support/support-questions.html

To open multiple files at once, as Xref, that would be a suggestion:

I could think that this would be a great plug in idea, or something for the CV-Tools?

My best wishes

Thank you for your response.

I also think that opening multiple files at once, as Xref, that would be a nice addon.

For Windows 10, I had R16. I installed R17 and then I removed R16. Then the problem with thumbnails appeared, after uninstalling R16.
I also have used R16 and R15 files, or even R14, R13 files.
I will send this to MAXON.

Thanks.

Thanks for understanding, Maksym M!

I checked it on a Mac, so I’m curious if the support can reproduce it quickly on a similiar set up, simliar to yours..
I hope this problem will be soon history.

My hopes are, besides a native solution later on, that some Phyton-Gurus will share a script that can do it soon [multiple selected files set up as multiple Xref].

Thanks for sending in the suggestions as well!

All the best

I received a reply from Maxon about my problem with thumbnails with c4d r17 install:
“The thumbnails are saved into the Cinema 4D file and had nothing to do with a Cinema 4D installation itself.”
and
“(...)at the moment we do not support Windows 10 officially, because we haven’t test it until yet.”

I fixed the problem after reinstalling C4D r16 parallel with r17.
So why while Windows 10 is not supported, after reinstallation r16 thumbnails are visible again?
As if the problem was on the side of r17 and not Windows 10. I’m not sure.

Hi Maksym,

The Windows thumbnail is displayed with the help of a dll that should be registered automatically with Windows when you install C4D. It sounds like for some reason the DLL isn’t being properly registered when you install R17. To register it manually follow this procedure:

Open an elevated Command Prompt (Start, Type “cmd”, Right-click and choose Run as administrator)

Type regsvr32 “c:\program files\cinema 4d r17\resource\libs\win64\win_thumbnail.dll”
If your C4D path is different replace the appropriate parts.

You should get a dialog saying DLL registration succeeded, and your thumbnails should now be visible.

Rick, Thank you. That helped.
Now with R17 thumbnails work as they should with no R16 help.

I found one more bug on W10x64 wtit C4Dr17.
Sometimes Cinema r17 do not want to start, and the message appears about the missing libmmd.dll
Don’t know why, but it can not by registered manualy, so I just copy libmmd.dll from
C:\Program Files\MAXON\CINEMA 4D R17\resource\libs\win64
to
C:\Windows\System32
And now it runs ok.

Did you use the installer? Which installer did you have - download from US, download from eportfolio, or DVD?

The libmmd.dll file should have been installed automatically by the installer as part of the Intel XE 2015 Redistributable (https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/redistributables-for-intel-parallel-studio-xe-2015-composer-edition-for-windows).

I have the boxed installation DVD that I got from the reseller in Poland.
I did the ISO from DVD and I installed C4D from ISO from hard drive. Whether it can has an impact on error?

However, after the installation libmmd.dll was in: C:\Program Files\MAXON\CINEMA 4D R17\resource\libs\win64
but while starting C4D message appears about the missing libmmd.dll
I’ve tried to registered it manually, as with win_thumbnail.dll, but this did not worked.
So I just copy it to C:\Windows\System32

Besides these errors Cinema 4D r17 works flawlessly, so far.
