Hi Dr. Sassi, how difficult is it to, with Xpresso ( i presume this is what is needed) to have an object change materials using dynamics. In other words, if an wooden object is dropping to the ground, once it bounces ( hits surface) , once or twice, the material changes to another material. thank you in advance, Craig

Hi Craig,

Please have a look here Post #2.
http://old.cineversity.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2720&PN=1
I use here the Ghost Tag, to switch between two object visibility.

The Ghost allows for the information needed, to do the switch.

Let me know if that helps. If not, please provide a simplified scene file, so I know exactly what you need. I’m not clear at the moment about the “once or twice” idea: Do you want to have it change each time? :o) ...three materials or back to the first one.

All the best

P.S.: here is an example file which switches once. The Time[frame] node is there to reset the switch.

The second file is for continuously switching through a list. (If you need to loop this, let me know)

The third file is more for fun, but perhaps you can gain some ideas for your project.

Let me know if there is any question.

(This is a set up for one computer and running from start)

Hi Dr. Sassi, you are amazing as always!!-the ghost tag is one of those techniques on my “list of things to learn” this is just what the doctor has ordered, although I do need to study the info/files that you have so generously provided, thanks. As far as the ” once or twice”, all I meant was, when something drops down, depending upon the material, and surface of course, an object may bounce and as energy diminishes, it finally stops, that’s all. Will talk soon, and be well, CZ

Thanks for the nice feedback, Craig. :o)

Let me know if there is any question, or perhaps a new idea. I’m happy to look into it.

Good luck with the project
