Sculpting mask not showing up

I’m pulling my hair out because I can’t get the masking paint brush to appear while sculpting. I can paint a mask and when I run a tool over the drawn area it it acts as though the mask is working fine. Even though I’ve clicked all of the mask show/hide options and reset all of the options in the attribute manager to default (everything under stamp, falloff, etc.), and I’ve used every type of viewing shade mode but still can’t see the mask. Any idea what I’m overlooking? Thank you.

Hi Andy.Man,

Which version do you use and can you share a little scene file with the problem?

I tried the version I have here and found no problems. Have you changed the Mask color to white perhaps?

Of course, there is also the support, as it might be a technical problem that I’m not supposed to handle.

Hi Doc,

Here’s the project file. I’d set the mask to red with no avail.  Also I’m on v. R16

Thanks for the file, Andy.Man.

Please try the following. Select the Subdivision Surface Object called Lisa and copy it. Go to a new scene file and paste this. (I would replace the Subdivision Surface Object, it seems like an old one, more later about it)

Then subdivide the body in Sculpture and paint the mask, but: As long as the Subdivision Surface Object is active you will not see anything.

I would place anything but the “body” to the Subdivision Surface Object, the subdivision should be done in Sculpture—with the Subdivision Surface Object you take out the fine details which are possible with Sculpture.

I hope that helps.

Have a great weekend

Thanks Doc, worked right away. Didn’t think about the SubdivisionObject, been a long week. Cheers.

Nice, thanks for the feedback, Andy.Man.

I like scene-files, they take the most of guesswork out of the equation ;o)

I hope you have a great weekend, take care
