Hello,
i am trying to get the vertex maps from C4d into Unity for Vertex color shading.

But I don’t get it to work. The vertex color do not appear in Unity? Do you have a tip for me?

Also how does a 0-100 percent vertex map would be mapped to the R,G,B channels? would I need to generate 3 Vertex maps?

Hi Doppelmonster,

There is no option natively to store color information in C4D. It will be im- or exported only. Some 3D apps use that.

You might create a suggestion here: http://www.maxon.net/support/suggestions.html

thanks for your reply, and sorry that i am answering so late.

Yes it is really a shame that Cinema doesent support proper vertex coloring. Its really an important feature for game art….

I will make a suggestion.

Thanks for doing that, Doppelmoster. I guess back in the ‘90s (e.g., R4) when resources (computer) needed to be taken carefully, the color information was certainly a consideration to store, as it might double the memory needed. Today I can’t really see that as a reason anymore.

My best wishes

i have to disagree. With mobile devices the resources are still quiet limited and optimizing is a must. You can do lots of tricks with shaders when you have vertex color information at hand.
See this blender workflow for some basics: http://cgcookie.com/unity/2013/03/22/quick-tips-working-with-vertex-colors/

But i agree that cinema should have add the feature in the 90s…..
