Hey so i did this spline animation of 1 word pulling another word. I baked the spline and now i have attached a chain link to that spline. Now i want to have a wrap around the chain giving the impression that there is a chain under the wrap. Almost like if i try and cover a chain with a rubber cloth. I have a sample of my file.. I managed to get the impression but the collision and shrink wrap has been giving me funky results. Thanks in advance.

Here is the link to my file.

Hi Kingkopper,

I have attached a scene file, perhaps simpler than yours. If I get it correctly, the chain is not visible under the rubber skin, but it shapes the “skin”. So why bother with it in the first place? You can place two torus on the end each time, to have the illusion that the chain runs through.

You might as well have more details on that rubber-hose. Check it out, it is a very simple shape. Note, set the clones to three or four, so you see how each modeling step works. I placed the parts that I didn’t need on an layer.

All the best

AHh i didnt think of doing a shape like this. It works perfect by mimicking the chain. I have another question.. If i want something like the image below how would you do that? https://www.dropbox.com/s/tl3pulwdfwl2pu5/Rope.jpg?dl=0

You’re welcome, Kingkopper. :o)

The structure of this “robe” looks very random. Perhaps a Displacement Deformer, and use the “Current State To Object” to have it calculated only once. I wouldn’t use a “Sub Polygon Displacement” here.

Have a great weekend

Hey Sassi,
I have a question that has been bugging me. So after i see the the file you sent back I notice that the spline tends to flip back and forth. Is there a way to fix that so lets say it doesnt jump around like that?  Im talking about having the rope not rotate so much..

Hi Kingkopper,

Here is you file back. The simple answer for too much movement is a Friction Object, placed into the Forces (include) field of the Cloth Tag.
To prevent rotation of the object it self, a Rail needs to be set up.
I guess this clip needs motion blur anyway, there is perhaps no need to fix the little part when the chain moves fast, but becomes relatively flat around frame 30 (+/-), too short perhaps for anyone to realize in realtime, or as it might be hidden behind the the letters anyway at that point.

All the best

Sassi
