Y- Coordinate to MoText

I have connected my Y Position of an object to the Motext Text parameter via Xpresso.  I want it to read out in inches to match the movement of the object on screen but it is giving me some other number which I assume is a vector or matrix number.

Is there a way to get it read out exactly what is in the Y Parameter as inches (or cm or mm if I choose?)

I’ve tried a couple of adapters and calculators but I can’t seem to crack it.

Thanks

TAK

Hi TAK,

You might know exactly what you want, but the text is a little bit cryptic.

Is that correct: You would like to use the P.Y (Local or Global) to set the hight or depth of the Letters?

If you hover over the port-dot, you get in the information line (bottom of the GUI) a message what format it is. Preferable for P.Y would be a “real” value. If it is a “vector”, use the Vector to real adapter, if it is a Matrix, use first the “Matrix to Vector” and then the Vector to Real (from the four vectors use the top port).

Let me know what you need and if possible, I will return an example scene ( ... the attached one is a guess, perhaps the following communication will be accelerated on it ;o).

All the best

Sassi

Actually no Dr.  I want the Motext to “Read out” or Spell out exactly what is in the y Coordinate parameter.

For example, if the Y Coordinate says 6.03 in I want the Motext to spell out “6.03 in”

I feed timecode and other info into Motext all the time.  But this coordinate changes to something else.

Thanks

TAK

PS - What you sent me is pretty cool though!

OK, the file helped to clear that, TAK. :o) ... and you’re welcome, thanks for the feedback.

Here is a new version, let me know if that works. _11 is just the information from A to B and _21 is a version with a string combined to get the “in” into the number

(Edit: Check the other _21_priority file later in this thread!./edit)

P.S.: File ..._22 with a update of the P.Y only very 15 frames, it was too nervous in _21

Well… that’s the idea.  Although the coordinates aren’t actual matching.  What I see in my Y Coordinate in both the Attributes and Coordinates panel are different numbers than are showing up in Motext..

And you’ve delved into C.O.F.F.E.E. which is well outside my brain’s job description smile

I suspect that C4D is converting whatever vector/matrix information into something more readily understandable such as inches or centers in the parameter setting but the ‘real” info is different

Hey Tak,

Which version do you have screen-captured? I have one version with an update only every 15 frames, as I wrote above. No Matrix etc problem.

The numbers are correct for each frame in the _11 version. Other than that, check the “Camera Dependent” on the Xpresso node/Attribute Manager, or press the A key to update the editor view. It might be a frame behind. The Vibrate node in _21 has to have a lower Priority or needs to be above the XPresso node.

The C.O.F.F.E.E. XPresso nodes are standard nodes in the XPresso side menu. Nothing that I have created. String Nodes are there since many years. ;o) [see image]

Please check _11 and let me know if that works for you.

All the best

Sassi

Weirdly counterintuitive.  C4D apparently likes to think in Centimeters no matter what you have the preference Unit set to.  So if my display units are set to inches I need to divide by 2.54 in the Xpresso to get the MoText to match the inches.

I’m having enough trouble with Xpresso… C.O.F.F.E.E. scares me.

Thanks for the help.

Hey TAK,

As I wrote, I have not touched C.O.F.F.E.E. at all, I just used teh nodes that were written in this “language”. So, no need to know anything about it—to use it.

Good luck
