project question - string snapping

Hi Cineversity, I have a question for you, I was hoping you could give me the direction.

I want to create a project where an object has strings connected to it, strings are hanging down. Another object passes through, collides and is supposed to tear or snap the strings.

Is the secret to tear or snap the strings in the cloth / tear options?

I would also think I have to study up on spline dynamics?

I’m trying to narrow down my research and then focus and execute.

Thank you for your help!

Hi TCG,

There is to my knowledge no “real” tear option at all. Even the cloth becomes teared only visually. It stays as one object, even if it looks different in the render.

I guess the best idea to have strings go from one to two objects is manually.

All the best
