View Edge Modeling
Edge Modeling is a modeling technique that uses edge extrusion to build mass and volume. When edge modeling a character, you pick a feature and start from there. Many modelers start with the eyelid/eyesocket, building out the facial features. Others will build parts as separate islands (isolated, connected to no other feature), and once the island shapes are build to a desired level, and correct edge loops, they will then fill in or bridge the gaps in between the various features. This method also allows you to build up a great library of parts like noses, ears, lips, etc.
