NAB 2015 Rewind - Brett Morris, Capacity: Abstract Animation with Simple Deformations
Brett Morris from Capacity shows off workflow techniques used to create an undulating orb and landscape for a not-yet-released project. Brett Morris from Capacity shows off workflow techniques used to create an undulating orb and landscape for a not-yet-released project.
Brett achieves a cloth-like simulation that’s much more controllable by layering the Jiggle, Surface, Smoothing and other deformers and applying Turbulence Force objects and layered Noise. Brett also shows how he ““modeled”” an abstract landscape with a Displacer deformer using multiple gradient and noise patterns within a Layer Shader. Finally, Brett shows a cool technique for using a MoGraph Matrix as a falloff source for deformation, and layering additional deformers to create an organic flow animation. He adds Hair and Feathers onto the deformed object for really dramatic results. |

NAB 2015 Rewind - Nick Campbell and Chris Schmidt: AskGSG Live
In a special presentation of their weekly AskGSG live stream, Nick Campbell and Chris Schmidt of GreyscaleGorilla.com answer a viewer question about rendering products that are entirely black. In a special presentation of their weekly AskGSG live stream, Nick Campbell and Chris Schmidt of GreyscaleGorilla.com answer a viewer question about rendering products that are entirely black.
To tackle this question, Chris models a business card holder and stack of business cards, demonstrating Cinema 4D’s polygonal modeling workflow. Next, he shows some tricks for setting up bump on the materials using layered procedural noise. Nick takes over and shows how he would approach the reflectance, specularity and lighting. Next, Nick and Chris show off an approach to achieve an abstract render based on a photograph from the inside of a mirror box. You’ll see how to use the Atom Array generator as well as reflection depth render setting. Watch AskGSG every Wednesday at 11am Pacific, 1pm Central. |
