Calculating the UV area

Hello!

We’re designing a structure to be displayed. And we need to calculate the exact area of the structure.
To do this, we first think that we need to spread the UV exactly the same as the area of the polygon, and secondly, we need to measure the area of the UV.

1. Is it possible to spread the uv area exactly the same as the polygon area of the modeling?
2. Is there a function to accurately calculate the area of UV?

Thank you for reading it!

Hi silo.artwork,

The UV data is always normalized; it has no 1:1 idea about the object’s size. If you scaled the object, you would lose the texture connection.

There are scripts available; google it.

One plug-in that is often named is https://code.vonc.fr/outils

Contact the developer if you need it for a newer version.

If you like to have that feature inside Cinema 4D, please make a suggestion here:

All the best

P.S.: there is a trick to get the data, but you need to create a volume out of the “area”. With that and Dynamics, you can get the Mass of the object. With 1cm thickness, for example, that leads to the area.
