Thanks for the file, Alex.

This is different than the profiles before. It has a sharp edge, and the chances that a point of the Spline hits that edge are slim to none. Manual work is needed. The points need to be placed there; as mentioned before, there is no optimal solution for no-round objects, so I had to adjust some details in the previous examples.

The more rubber rings are applied, the rounder it gets, and the work is easier. By the way, the Loft had the caps set to off in previous examples, and the Loft had a number of segments that would help the shape get closer. At the same time, the normals of the resulting mesh were flipped. In that way, the Cloth Object could grow outwards, not inwards.

Here is an example to start with the first one; after the recording, I applied to the Spline points a small Spline> Add> Chamfer (as shown in the image)

If some rubber bands are on the profile, things become rounder, and the projection (like the ones mentioned before) should be easier to create.

All the best

Hello Sassi
Thanks so much for the response, the video and the file.  I’m sorry I didn’t answer earlier, I had to leave on a trip and my laptop wasn’t setup with the project.  I did get a chance to test this before I left and I ran into an issue with the step where you convert the cut edges to splines and then un-check the “closed spline”.
I will do a screen recording when I get back to my work machine, but in my case when I cut the shape with the line cut tool (I’m 99% sure I matched your settings on the line cut attributes) I ended up having to select the edges in two select operations per edge - it wouldn’t select the entire loop (with the loop selection tool active) and when I converted then to splines unchecking the “closed spline” option made no difference
Is there something specific you did with the way you cut the lines?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

The Uncheck Close Spline is more of a demo, so you can see that the Splines are in sync. (Also, check if their white-blue gradient is in the same direction.)

Could it be that you cut into other edges? Then the Loop has no idea which edge to choose next.

All the best

Hey Sassi

So I recorded a video showing the line cut issue here
https://www.dropbox.com/s/grfu5g1ari5xv37/Cinema_4D_ovAxckn1Og.mp4?dl=0

And a video that shows the “closed” spline issue here
https://www.dropbox.com/s/18m5pth3spw470v/Cinema_4D_xwFAgqScmm.mp4?dl=0

Do you see where the problem may be?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the effort.

The first video is cropped; I can’t see the tool settings. It was Visible only on or off.

The second clip shows the polygon object. The open/close idea was to showcase the Splines and their sequence/direction of point order. That is no longer a part of the polygon object.

As usual, a project file tells me often more; even if the tools are not active anymore, I can see with the results what happens (not always, but more often than not.)

My suggestion, create a new scene, use a cube, and make it editable. Cut it and “harvest” some splines from the cut. When that works nicely, check with your scene.

All the best
