Trying to use alpha channel video as shader image.

I’ve been trying to make a small movie in After Effects to bring into Cinema and use as a moving image. I export from After Effects as Animation with RGB+Alpha. When I select that video as the image in the color channel, it comes in a solid yellow. If I output ProRes 4444 with alpha, I see the image in the material but can’t make it show on the object. I’ve tried everything. I just want to create a small plain and put the motion logo as the material with transparent background. I’m stumped.

Hi rickmo,

I would suggest using an image sequence. Some render engines don’t even touch “movie” formats, as those needed to be loaded typically complete before they become useable, which pulls recourses from other tasks.

I have set up a mini Ae to Cinema 4D pipeline and provided this in the folder below with a super simple example.

I also would avoid PNG with transparency as a base for that. Go with OpenEXR. Have the RGB layer with the logo and the colors larger than the alpha, so you don’t put an alpha on already transparent areas.

I hope that provides you with all you need.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

All the best
