Feather to hair

Hello,

Is there a way to convert the feather object to hair object and keep its attachment to the spline as is?
I tried by collapsing and re root etc but guides are not working proper.

scene file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ehobrt40lfi8dvv/feather.c4d?dl=0

ps. my end goal is to create a dynamic spline that has “hair” on it on both sides so essentially a feather.

Thanks!

Hi thanulee,

If you click on the feather and then press the c key, you should get a Hair Object from your setup.

However, that wouldn’t be my way for your target. Please have a look here:

The key is to use the Hair> Render Tag

Here the RenderTag is set to interpolation, which requires separating the “spine” (Rachis) from the hair (Barb). Otherwise, you get weird results.

All the best

Thank you. Yes this is not gonna work unfortunately as I am not looking for a render effect.
My issue lies after making feather editable and trying to regrow/re root the hair. Guides don’t follow what i have and hairs root in weird alignment.

Thanks anyways!

You’re very welcome, thanulee.

Using a Spline as a surface for Hair has problems, and Hair doesn’t provide a Rail Spline option.

I would explore the use of a Polygon stripe (see below - file “…_31”, it is a two stripe set up)

Enjoy your weekend

Thanks so much! I ll check these as alternatives as i have some ideas.

One last q: is there a way to stop a sweep from rotating on its axis when a spline is dynamic? I have same issue with spline wrap and no matter how i setup rails they both twist along their axis.

Have a great weekend!!

You’re welcome, thanulee!

Same here with the spline; you need a Rail to stabilize it. As in one of the examples, “…_11.c4d”  I used a second spline-dynamic setup.

A Spline rail works like a long target. It needs to be kind of parallel.
