Step Cloner Time Offset doesn’t work with User Data

I have a project where I’m using ‘User Data’ to drive animation within a Cloner. I’m trying to use the Step Effector to offset the animation, but it doesn’t seem to affect the User Data.

Are there any workarounds to accomplishing this, other than manually creating duplicates and offsetting the keyframes?

I tried attaching a file, but if it doesn’t work, here’s a link:

I really appreciate it!

Hi J.,

Thanks for using Google Drive and the file.

As the manual states, Objects are solely animated by their parameters.

If you like to have the advantage of setting up complex rigs while having them “unfolding” over time progressively as a group, this would be the way I chose.

Let me know if that works for you.

All the best

Thanks for the quick reply. I see you used a Blend Cloner, a Plain Effector (with the Modify Clone parameter turned up), and a Linear Field. I’ll give it a go and see if it fits my needs. Keep you posted.

Just a quick update, here’s a draft using the blend cloner. I was able to remap the linear field so that the concentric line movement is non-linear. It looks simple, but there’s quite a bit of parametric boolean elements to create the final form. Thanks again!
