Custom Rig using the Character Definition Tag

I’m trying to apply motion capture data to a rig I exported from Character Creator 3, but when I try to retarget one of the included motion capture clips from Maxon to my rig using the Character Solver tag, the rig crumples up and doesn’t follow along with the mocap data correctly.  The skeleton that is exported from CC3 has a number of extra joints for twisting the different limbs, but I believe those should just be grouped with their respective parent joints, correct? For example L_forearmtwist would be grouped with L_Forearm etc. in the character definition manager as I understand it. Honestly just not sure why this isn’t working, any help here would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi tcoben,

It would be best if you paired the joints that would match. I found that many joints that are not in existence in your setup, as you have mentioned.

My understanding of this is that besides the initial position changes, only relative rotations are applied. The groups will apply the data but not compare if that joint is available in the other group.

Modify the Definition, so any group that matches has the joints it needs. Suppose it is empty, no show. If that extra joint were in the middle of another group, it would inform the wrong joint.

All the best

Thanks for the quick response, this ended up working! In my CC3 character definition tag I only defined the joints that would match up with the Maxon rig, and had the tag ingore all the rest. Thanks so much for the help!
