Cache and Alembic files ignored at rendertime

Good day all,

I’ve just completed an expensive and grossly incorrect render.  I’ve got simple geometry in a rigid bodies dynamic simulation.  I’ve run the simulation, and have cached all the rigid bodies, and have a version with alembic files for all the rigid bodies (and collider bodies).  I sent the file to a renderfarm (garage render) but the final render features the rigid bodies with all the wrong timing, suggesting that the cache nor the alembics were read.  I received no errors in my uploading process but there was a point
when the render paused because I needed to purchase additional credits.  Does this sound familiar? I’m sure it’s basic but even after crawling the documentation, google, and youtube I’ve missed it somewhere.

thanks,
Jerry

Hi Jerry

Sorry to hear about the trouble. This is undoubtedly a case for the tech-support. I hope your render-farmer will join the case, to solve this.

My best wishes for your project.

thank you very much!  One more thing- do collider bodies have a different method of caching than the active colliding geo?  I note that when I cache my scene, the collider/inactive bodies have no cache data but the moving parts do

Hi Jerry,

I would love not to have mixed threads here (to keep things readable), but I see that might be related.

I have not your scene here, so I hope to get your question correctly:

Colliders are by default not cached*. When you press the Bake All, you will notice that Rigid Bodies, for example, have data stored (e.g., 12.3 MB), and the Collider object’s Tag shows zero memory used.

*Why is the Cache option even in a Collider? If you switch on the Include Collision Data, then this is “recorded.”
https://help.maxon.net/c4d/r25/en-us/Default.htm#html/DYNRIGIDBODYTAG-RIGID_BODY_GROUP_CACHE.html#RIGID_BODY_CACHE_INCLUDE_COLLISIONS

Is this answer fit to your question?

All the best

thank you very much.  that does clarify things.  So many moving parts in this software, any clarity is useful.  thank you!

You’re very welcome, Jerry.

Sorry for the delay. We had a show, and I shut off email, etc. - then I forget typically to switch it on.

All the best
