Getting a Smoother Cloth Simulation

Hello,
I’m working with a cloth simulation in Cinema 4D R25. I am trying to replicate a flag being attached to a pole. The pole has a Cloth Collider Tag and the Flag has a Cloth Tag with a Cloth Belt Tag connecting it to the pole.

When I run the simulation, I get a lot of strange artifacts at the quickest part of the animation.

I also get some noise with some of the cloth collision in the simulation:

How can I keep the cloth together at the quick part of the animation and reduce the collision noise (just an overall better cloth simulation)? My scene file is here:

Thank you!

Hi blastframe,

Thanks for the file, and for using Google.

I would always try to find a Belt object that offers “points” that are very close to the fabric’s edge. Wrapping the fabric around the collider is not my suggestion. If you need it wrapped, do it and leave it out of the simulation for that pole part.

Your setup moves the flag in 20 frames very abruptly in a curve motion while the self-collision is enabled.
I have enabled self-repulsion as well and changed some tolerances.
The cache is not the original cache. I used the simulation> Cache-Tool to fix some problems.
https://help.maxon.net/c4d/r25/en-us/Default.htm#html/CACHETOOL.html#PLUGIN_CMD_100004023

I find that more straightforward than fiddling with the settings endlessly. Why? Because each change will affect all areas of the flag again.

Not the final version, but I hope it comes close. Save the cache before you overwrite it, just in case wink

Thank you, Dr. Sassi. You’ve given me some good tips for cleaning this animation up. smile

Thanks for the feedback, blastframe.

This tool is pretty powerful—art direction while keeping most of the dynamics.

Have a lovely evening.
