Srgb/Linear representation in color slider in Node System

Hello!

I have worked with octane before and I am starting to transition to redshift.

When I create a new material with the new node system in Cinema 4d (not expresso) the colors have the linear representation.  I don’t see the benefit artistically. I can switch that off with the small icon. Is there a way to change the default or is there a good reason for that which I don’t yet see?

Thanks,
Alex

Hi Alex,

Please have a look at the note in this document (here: Blending Space)
https://help.maxon.net/c4d/s24/en-us/Default.htm#html/NET_MAXON_PATTERN_NODE_GENERATOR_GRADIENT-NET_MAXON_NODE_BASE_GROUP_INPUTS.html#COLORSPACE

Then you will find here the way to have the values expressed in Gamma or Linear (here: Linear Numeric Values)
https://help.maxon.net/c4d/s24/en-us/Default.htm#html/PREFSUNITS-PREF_UNITS_MAIN_GROUP.html?TocPath=Configuration|Preferences|_____7
In the preference (Units> Default Set> Linear Numeric Values: checkbox) you decide what you get by default.

Since we use image-based and information-based values in the same system, you might need to use the little icon (Linear Numeric Values) to get per node what you need to see. (Image below)

I hope that provides you with the right mix to get a linear workflow while seeing the values in the settings as you like to have it.

All the best
