Hello Sebastian

Thank you for your great Toon FX tutorials. It’s really fun. Unfortunately I got stuck at the Wave Displacer (3:20) used for the main wave. What shader setup do you use to get that quite nice wave. Tried Gradient, Fresnel, Colorizer etc. without success.
Can you give me a little hint or a screenshot of the shader setup.
Thanks and regards
Erwin

and if someone else is also reading this and has an idea how to setup the shader. Let me know.

Hi Erwin,

Please have a look at the file below. It is a simplified version, and some parameters are different:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/Fef0pTyoxfLSBIL72OTCHyY1WsHchsN5Ac8G1dDoqDQ
… is this answering your questions?

Note the color shader in the Displacer, it is white, which means 100% of the Displace value will be given into the mix, but the falloff will reduce it accordingly to its value.

I hope the Admins of the site can add the project file at one point. I think that would be super helpful. wink

All the best

Hi Dr. Sassi

Thank you for your fast reaction to my question. As I can see I was on the right path. I did lately also select color and white. What I don’t see with his setup (enabled at 3:20) is how he get the wave breaking.  The way with the bend deformed you chose is appealing. Will keep that in mind.

Thank you and happy new year

Hi Erwin,

The wave shrinks more than it collapses. It creates an overhanging edge, and then it “melts” down. In the tutorial, the top edge is broken a little bit with the Shader Effector. In this way, it doesn’t show up too much.
I hope that we can have, after the holiday break, a scene file can be added.

Have a great start in 2021 as well.
