After Effects won’t recognise png sequence exported from Cinema 4D

Hi, I have recently started to use Cinema 4D so I might be missing something basic as I have a rather strange problem.

I rendered a png sequence of my C4D project with the Standard Renderer but when I go to import it in After Effects, the only way to see it is to select All files, otherwise AFter Effects doesn’t recognise it. The png files themselves don’t seem to come with a .png ending either.

I also get an odd error message whenever I open the project about missing plugins but I am not using any plugins.

Any ideas why this happens?

Many thanks,

Kat

Hi Kat,

I have set up a scene, rendered it, and used PNG as a format for After Effects. All fine. You might check if you run into the same problems with the file s below.

https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/hEAFiDSodrl0c7CRYRHquHkRsnUbHCh66bBmvmjK2R

I have no idea which plugins are in the file referenced. Perhaps copy everything from the Object Manager into a new file. Save it in the same folder to keep textures connected.
Save it, close it, open it: The same alert?

Why there is no suffix (.png) on the names, no idea.

I can have a look into it, or check with the support.

Let me know if you like to have an upload link; I’m happy to set one up.
IF you want to share it public-ally, please:
Dropbox, Amazon, Apple, Google, Adobe, Wetransfer only, thanks!

Cheers

Hi!

Thanks so much for taking a look. I did as you suggested and I get the same alert.

The png sequence you sent me, imports fine.

If I can send you the project privately, that would be great.

I saw somewhere on youtube that in order to import into After Effects I needed to copy the Maxon Exhange plugin to the AE plugins folder. Is that correct?
Would that have caused the problem maybe?

I also have Program files from C4D R21, would they interfere?

Thanks for checking the tips out, Kat.

I tried to send you an upload link via PM, but the system failed.
So, instead, I will leave the link here only shortly:
(…)

To import an image sequence, no Cinema 4D specific plugin is needed.

1
If you like to use the aec (after-effects compositing) file, you need to install a plugin.

2
The c4d format can be imported (limitations apply.)

The two above require an installation. The needed plugins are in the Maxon>Cinema 4D folder> Exchange plugins

3
If you like to open a Cinema 4D, save it as Cineware.

Let me know when you have copied the link; I like to take it out ASAP.

All the best

Hi Kat,

I can’t tell how this problem was produced. I tried all possible ways, well not all, but close.

The problem comes from the Text Object and the Extrude.
So, I replace them all, with the parameter as before (I hope I got all), and all is fine when I save and reopen.

Perhaps you send me a PM with a contact info, sometimes the other way around works with an email where I can send the link.

All the best

Hi Kat,

I use the PM only for URL exchange. I had for many years, all gates open, PM, email, etc. It resulted in up to eight hours, seven days a week of private questions. No one had any benefit from it in the forum. So I just stopped that completely a few years ago.

I’m not sure why, but I can’t send you a PM.
If you like the fixed file, I need an email address to send you the URL of a download option.

All the best

Thanks, Kat, email sent.

Please check the file if it matches the old one. You certainly have a better eye for your scene that I have.

You might take out the email in your post to avoid spambots collecting it.

Yes, I’m not sure, but from the time I can’t send a PM, and I have no option to see the preferences of an account.

All the best
