Hi julopez,

What I can see is that the hair-model is way too high; it should be close and a little bit larger.

My suggestion is that you start doing this with a simple object (Platonic perhaps), and a Hemisphere. Then adapt the Hemisphere to the Platonic object.

The idea is that you don’t start with something that needs to be correct. Something that you can mess up and no harm was done. It makes no sense that I do the same again, and you follow, only that you will feel the same problem again with the next character. There will be a new challenge. You need to get this into your muscle-memory. Doing it from a video clip is like painting by numbers, which trains the hand/brush coordination. Nothing else relevant. It must be yours able to perform it at any time. Then you can create freely.

Of course, I will send you an upload link, and I will have a look into it. But I know for sure, I really don’t do you a favor with that; it will set you rather back. If you want to make great videos, you need to do that with simple objects, then with more complicated things, and so one. I know you want to get it done. But I create here a dependency. I want that you feel confident and free to do it whenever you like.

I try to get a picture of any artist here and what is best for them. You know your self best, I hope. Patience, motivation, and ambition need to create a triangle than surrounds your vision. It should not be smaller.

So, have you followed the simple object set up, have you tried it, done it many times? wink
Anyway, if you do it or not, it is only in your very own interest. Do you want to grow big or get by?

Check your PM.

Cheers.

Hi julopez,

I haven’t gotten a file, so let us go with the way you asked me to.

Here are the requested video clip and the files, start and finish.
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/anXGpdVWH0f0QfiN8zpttpYzFAnyP6ZDVKVK7EPVrac

I hope I have changed enough to the previous clip. The idea of it will come across. I know that just showing something is not teaching. For me, teaching means to find the point where you got stuck and push through that obstacle together. Doing that in a forum is different than being together with you on a screen (Hands-On). I hope it will work for you.

Cheers

You’re very welcome, julopez.

Thanks for the kind feedback.
BTW.: I use the avatar name of your “user-name” as written with small and capital letters.
. Of course, if I see a different name as a signature, I will use this.

I hope you can make some progress with the material.
Keep going with your target to make a great video!

My best wishes.

P.S.: I just saw that you uploaded a file. I will have a look in to that in an hour, OK?

P.S.:

I have sent you a PM with an URL to get your file back.

You might use the smooth, average, or other tools shown in the clip above if some details need adjustment.

I have also set the Headjoint/Skin for this.

Have a great weekend

You’re very welcome, julopez, thanks.

Here is a little demo, not a screen capture. I limit myself here since years to one-minute demos (these are not intended to be tutorials), a demo must do for now. I certainly like to do tutorials later again.

I have animated the steps to showcase the procedure. It is the same as I have shown in post #18. I have not done anything differently.

Screen capture
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/vdQ6PdEiEQyOsXz889RmR3p7N7sjGAgkGqWxLJzR8qR

1 Position, Scale, Rotate, to come close, but leave a little bit space.
2 Set the weight for parts that should not be affected by Shrink Wrap (0%), and what should be (100%), then blend between the borders of 0 and 100%
3 Fine-tune the settings
4 (not in the demo) Set the Skin/Weight for the Hair to the Head Joint.

Enjoy your weekend

Thanks for the reply, julopez!

Consider using the file from post #18 until you could do it “in your sleep”. wink

I hope you get quickly to the state where this becomes fun to work with.

The best help is given when the point where the “flow” stops is known. We can go back then one step where it worked nicely and look at what stopped it from this step.

Enjoy your weekend

Hi julopez,

That sounds great. Nice!

Here are a short screen capture and an example file.
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/LGSsG79F7pq89ohb5fzGi9Oiq8Mr6Jsp326CukqTs9U

What you need to do is to Bind the object to the same joints that are used to bind the head of your character. In your case, a single joint is used, and the joint was called: head. See image.

What binding does is simple, it creates a connection between the joint and your object’s points. The points need to have 100% influence in total. Since we use only one joint here, that influence goes to the head joint. The weight and the skin object create and hold that relationship.

Binding:

Perhaps take a plane, place some joints close to it and Bind this, move the joints to see what happens. With a shift-click on the Weight tag, you get to the Weight Manager.
