As soon as I get to the 7:19 point in the tutorial, I am unable to display the color differences of the vortex mapping to show the lighter color which is a lighter value.. Is there a display setting to view the color shading?  I only have a solid red color.  I’ve reset the program prefs to make sure I didn’t have something set up incorrect.

Typically I would request the file, as working from images has not really a lot of options.
However, in the file, you have problems with, try to switch off the Plain[Scale] Effector. Are the colors now visible?

(I guess you figured this out already: This means one or the other (perhaps both) parameter needs some adjustment to get the polygon fly-away effect, as well the weigh-information.)
