Regular wavy pattern

Hello again

I’m trying to replicate a wave pattern like this one.  I imagined it could be done with a Displace deformer and a gradient to create the “waves”, but this pattern seems more complex…
What would be the best approach to come closer to something like this

Thanks!!

Hi Alex,

Here is your Bridget Riley starter-kit. (Funny, I’m just reading a book from my old Prof. [UDK, Berlin] about Bridget Riley/Collected Writings)

The idea is that the Noise distorts the UV [context], and in this way, the lines become kind of Op-Art.

You need to tweak those Noise values to get what you need. The animation is not live, it needs to be rendered. To make that loop, perhaps render a noise loop first and feed it to the system.

A different, more practical approach is this one here:

I guess this explains itself quickly. If not, please let me know.

All the best

Thanks Sassi!
I’ve never used the new Node Editor, so I’m a bit confused.  Could you explain the process a little bit?

Hi Alex,

That is certainly a longer story. But in short, the UV space (here called Context) is based on three colors, in 2D on two. Like in Ae where you can displace an image based on the values of other images, the Noise displaces here the UV space.
Similar to that, the other UV node is just there to duplicate the line, like in Tiling.

Both are then combined (straight lines and displaced UV space) to create the pattern.

The Noise is set to animate, and in that way, the lines will be displaced accordingly.

Is this helping a little bit?

Cheers

P.S.:
Please have a look here, I guess this is the closest mix for the question about Node-based material and your current interest.
