Mixamo to C4D R17?

Hi,

I am almost beating myself up on this… How can I get animations from Mixamo into C4D. When I load a pre-rigged character and the subsequently want to add BVH animation sequences from Mixamo (or any other source, but that would mean retargeting a skeleton…) It does not work. Only the hip moves a long but the mesh binding is compeltely lost.

I also want to mix different sequences of motion in Cinema but I cannot find any good tutorials on how this whole area in C4D actually works.

I’d be greatly thankful of any help!

Albert

Hi Albert,

I had first to open an account over there, and then downloaded the free test.

I used FBX as option. Opened it with the default in C4D R17 and it worked just fine.

Then I downloaded another animation, also in FBX.

I turned then the first into an Animate>Animation Clip…

With the second file I did the same, and saved it so I can load it into the first (Timeline Motion)

To mix both was seamlessly possible.

Since I have tested only the Freebee version, I can’t tell how they would set up other characters. For the motion system to work, the hierarchy needs to be the same.
Based on my reading about rigging, joints are typically “L_named_jnt” or “R_named_jnt”, a convention that I couldn’t find here.

However, please try it with your character and perhaps check these tutorials:

Let me know if that works for you.

All the best

Hello Sassi,

Vielen Dank für die schnelle reponse!!

I don’t quite get it…

I export the first animation with a mesh (so that I have an actual character that moves and not just the skeleton…) Then I try to import the second animation by just using the skeleton with the motion. Then I try to copy the keyframes from the new motion, and paste them on the existing skeleton that is attached to the mesh. However things fly all over the place.

If I try to do the motion clip route I end up with two separate entities that I canot mix together…

The motion tutorials from R11 are from a long time ago and don’t really allow me to see how this translates to a character scenario.

Haven’t there been updates in tutorials somewhere that show how to do this?

Viele Grüße aus Venlo,
Albert

Albert, I have put a “one minute” clip up. You can download it, so it is easier to stop and rewind if needed.

https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/r2kagZmmjPn9gx9LNpZHKjvZbVFS7DN6qBPvPwrBzBz?ref_=cd_ph_share_link_copy

The beauty of the motion system is, that you can create a library, and have transitions from one clip to the next.

Timing, repetion and editing (as in film-editing) are given.

Since the characters move, a pivot point is sometimes needed, also in my quick run-down.

The motion system is practically a “Keyframe Management System”, hence why I suggested it.

Again—it needs the same hierarchy, but that would be the case for the Key frame “copy&paste;” method as well.

All the best

Vielen dank für die Grüße,
Herzlichst

P.S. R11 and R17 have not so many changes in the Motion System.

Just wanted to say this thread helped me tremendously with understanding how to integrate FBX motion clips and converting to Motion clips.  I think this should be an “official” Cineversity tutorial.

Thank you very much, edub! Very nice of you.

I have made a series about the Motion Clip and team work.
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/animation_techniques_for_teams/animation_techniques_for_teams_part_01_course

But yes, to see a course that takes FBX based material from a Technical Directors point of view would be nice.

Have a great day.
