Hi all,

I am in the process of building a realtime environment of an ancient structure (a 1280 AD cellar) that is completely lit via GI. I am shocked by the rendering quality of the baker. It is nowhere near the rendering quality that I am used to from Cinema 4D.

What is the best practise to bake the GI onto a model for export to other packages (i.e. Unity…)

Hi Albert,
Without seeing a file it is hard to say.
Some of my rough tests are showing that there may be a bug.
If that is the case you may want to send your file off to tech support so that they can have an example.

Hi Patrick,

From what I observe it saves the prepass as a map. It does not actually render out the ‘render’ pass as a map.

This is easy to do with any object or project. Nothing specific to my project here.

The steps to do are:

1]  create a new project
2]  add some objects with or without textures
3]  add some lights with shadows to create a nice light play
4]  activate global illumination from the effects menu (in render settings) and adjust settings for quality
5]  select the objects you want to bake
6]  from the objects menu select “bake object”
7]  activate the “illuminate’ checkbox
8]  set file path
9]  bake
10] be disappointed…

Like I mentioned, looks like this one is a bug, my recommendation would be to try baking in 12.x if you have access. In the mean time I would suggest contacting MAXON customer support for further help with the file.
