small problem with CV-Import Image As

This is a great looking new set of tools!
However, I have a small issue, and I’m not sure if its to do with the plugin or c4d settings.

I want to import a folder of images (cv plane from image), but the images are all numerically named as a sequence.
The plugin imports each one but as a sequence so they all look the same.
Is there a way to stop this and import each “frame” as a separate image plane?

Hi @NNenov,

No way to do that at the moment, you may be able to import each one individually - but I’m not even sure if that will work. I’m working on an options dialog for v2 and I’ll add a setting for this issue.
Cheers,

Donovan

For now, I think the fastest workflow would be to open your directory and give each image a unique name. On Mac OS it would go something like:

1. Open finder to image dir
1b. Switch to List View
1c. Sort by “Last Modified”
2. Select first image
3. Press return
4. Type a meaningful name
5. Press return.
6. Press the down arrow to select the next image
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for all images you want to import.

Probably not the answer you want to hear, but if the images are differently sized it should still save you a ton of time. If the images are all the same size, then just import one image and use a MoGraph MultiShader’s import directory option.

Hi Donovan,
Ah I see, thanks for the tips! Its not a big issue like I said.
It slipped my mind to use the multi shader!

Best,
Nick

Hey there Donovan,

Yes, love the tool but also ran into this. A client sent images but named them in this form: 1617_2000_34 so the tool can’t separate them. There are a lot of images so renaming them isn’t fun!

Still it is a wonderful tool!

hello, if your images are all the same resolution then you should just import one and use multishader with cloner to get the rest!

P.S. For the next release, I would like to request a DPI setting, so importing image plane is scaled to real world dimensions based on given DPI.
Cheers

Hi Thanks,

Yeah- I have seen problems with Multishader in Octane so I try to avoid that.

Okay, I’ve officially logged this as a feature request. I hope to add an option in the next version that allows to you to treat sequentially numbered images as separate images instead of sequences.

It’s now possible to import sequentially named images as separate images! Get v1.5 via CV-Toolbox.

1.5.0:
New: Options dialog for Import as Plane
New: Options dialog for Import as Sprite.
New: Match Width sizing option.
New: Match Height sizing option.
New: Match Resolution option.
New: Option to import sequenced images as separate files.
New: Import multiple image sequences in directory mode.
Bug Fix: Decal now added as last material.
Improved: Two-stage options when importing animated footage as background so you can choose to adjust resolution and length separately.
Improved: Documentation now describes options and includes some new images.
