keeping rigid bodies grouped

Hello!

Im wondering if its possible to group rigid bodies, and what is the best way? I made an animation where words are being spewed out of an emitter or cloner. I want dynamics on all the letters, but i want them to stick together in a group so the word remains legible, more or less. Follow position doesn`t really work because it slows down the forces i used, i was thinking of adding a softbody moving mesh around the letters. but there has to be an easier way i guess?

I’ve added 2 test renders on the link below, and as you can see all the letters go wild. But if i only add dynamics on the word it`s too stiff of an animation.

Thank you so much

Hi laurent.dochy,

Thanks for the file and for using Google drive.

While the Dynamic Body Tag is selected: Attribute Manager> Collision> Individual Elements: Off.

Let me know if that works for you.

All the best

Dear dr sassi, no, because this means there are no dynamics at all on individual letters. So not really the effect I’m looking for. At a certain point i thought connecting the letters with a spring to keep them chained together.

Got it, laurent.dochy, thanks for the additional details.

You might have a look at a special CV Toolbox plugin.

Dear Dr Sassi, thanks!

I think, in my case, the spring works better than a connector. But it’s a bit glitchy on the text object. And I have the feeling calculation times increase quite a bit when i use it.

Seeing the amount of objects i want to place in the scene is quite large i’m not sure if it’s a right fit for this project.
but thank you for your time!

You’re welcome, laurent.dochy, thanks for taking the time.

I’m not aware of any faster option to Dynamically connect objects.

Your example had one four-letter object in it. Perhaps: share more?

My best wishes for your project
