How Do I Fix “Animation Strobing/Flickering”? (Not sure the correct term)

Hi, Dr. Sassi,
Link to video: https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/5wHnFeTVZTwHvs6SwixD0s6YZRKZelP486Ug5VsrsXy

This video is rendered in C4D. 24 fps.
So my problem here is how the animated UFO’s movement does not feel smooth. When I watch it, it feels like it staggers as it moves. Is there a way to fix this?
I am looking for a solution that does not involve increasing the fps (I would like it maintained to 24fps)

Thanks!

Hi openmindedcomedy,

I would say that is clearly a problem of missing motion blur.

When you write 24fps, that is considered a cinema frame rate, which would lead to the suggestion to have a 180º shutter. However, if you want to have it super smooth, you go more with a video setting, close or nearly the 1/24th of a second (or 360º)

That can be done in post to a certain degree, with a plug-in and the motion vector pass. However, that is not always the best way.

The simplest way here would RenderSettings> Effects> Subframe Motion Blur.

Let me know if there is any question.

Cheers

I see. I use Arnold Renderer and tried this, but it resulted with some weird rendering issues. I think I’ll try Arnold’s Motion Blur thing later. Thank you for the suggestion!

Hi openmindedcomedy,

I do not have Arnold, nor do I had any idea that you use it. You wrote it is rendered in C4D.

Yes, I assume Arnold has an excellent option for motion blur.

My best wishes for your project.
