I’m trying to do a candy bar wrapper like the one in this photo where the background of the design looks metallic and the logo area is just glossy:

What I’m getting isn’t even close. I know I’ve done this before but the reflections in C4D are super-complicated and I can’t remember how I did it. This is what I’m getting:

Hi ahanford,

I typically do not click on private links here for security reasons.

Render your product, if we talk about a still, as Multipass. Use perhaps Photoshop as target format multi-layered. This means we have all the information on several layers. Place a Layer-mask near the Reflection-layer and paint reflections in or out. For this, the reflection amount in the material should be to the maximum of what you like to have.
(Simplified: Render one with one without reflection and use a layer mask in Ps.)

Alternative, Set up a texture in the Layer-mask or the Layer in the reflectance channel. Then, you can paint in BodyPaint3D precisely where you need the reflections. Then render.

(Please note the Doodle is not needed for anyone reading along.)
The Texture can be set in different values. Why different values, I show in the screen capture.

I should probably send you my file. I have an amazon link. Do you have email? there’s copyrighted material that I don’t want on the forum.

Hi ahanford,

Are the options provided not working? Is it still or animated?

You can send a URL to my Private Message here.
I check pretty much all major cloud services. (Amazon, DropBox, Google, Adobe, Apple, Wetransfer. I do not use shortened URLs, they are NOT safe)

With ransom software all over the place and sharing files here, I have to keep it pretty tight. Thanks for understanding.

All the best

Thanks for the file, ahanford,

I know why I love scene files!

Do yourself a favor and forget the Environment channel. Seriously. With this channel, “all” the problems you have start and stop.

Try it; just shut it off. (…or at least set it to 25% and go from there.)

(Set the Reflectance> Layer Mask> Mix strength to zero, then to 50%, render each time.)

All the best
