Tried everything I can but can’t select the guides as instructed in this video. I only every select the polygon points/edges/faces depending on the active tool. Has the hair tool changed since R17?

Win 10 and R23.

I’ve worked it out. There’s a special hair selection tool!

Thanks again. Although I selected the guides I’ve not really understood why this step with the guides and deleting half of them is needed. Everything seems to work fine without this step.

Still working my way through. It’s been a brilliant and very deep series of videos and I have learnt a huge amount starting from zero. It’s a shame the UVEdit is so outdated compare to R23. I’d be great to update this with current UV and using Redshift

I the videos as a guide to modelling my own dog that has very long, loose wavy hair and the ears on my spaniel are getting lost in the overall head shape and hair. I’m wondering if I should have modelled them separately, applied hair to each, and then tried to blend the two models together? I’ll keep plugging away and watch his other videos about hair. Practice, practice practice

Thanks for the additional feedback, charlesbatho.

Yes, it is undoubtedly a deep series, pretty much a master class. It is often difficult to find an object that would allow all tools to be needed or valuable, so quick tips are given to share more than required. On the other side, things shouldn’t go too sidetracked. To find a good balance here is critical.

The other point you mentioned is the UV work and its current options in R23 compared to an earlier version. Yes, it is beneficial to watch additional tutorials for that, and perhaps an entry into the comments (containing some links) might be helpful. I would suggest to use the search options for tutorials, presumably having more in the future.

The problem with holding a few thousand tutorials here is catching up with the developers and their race to keep up with the artists’ feature requests. wink All of that while keeping things within the budget. It is also a balancing act. I hope we did not do too bad so far.

Enjoy the series.
