Camera shader problem

Camera shader works well in the viewport but when I try to render it via viewport render I can’t see it. Any ideas?

btw I copied all effects of the vp and also saved it as a preset..

edit: it works with standard render.. BUT I need it in Viewport Render. I can’t finish an animatic without it.

Hi emregoren,

To my knowledge, the Camera Shader has never worked in the Picture Viewer (I checked a few versions today) while using any kind of preview renderer, like the Viewport Renderer. In the earlier versions of Cinema 4D, the Camera Shader showed black, now in newer versions, it is green.

When you render to the picture viewer, the interactivity with your scene stops, of course. This means, if the Camera Shader is set up correctly, you could “Bake” the animation and use the result of the baking in a different shader to have all parts in the way you need it. This baking doesn’t show viewports elements. You haven’t mentioned why this needs to be in the Picture-Viewer and no reason why the editor (viewport) is not sufficient.

In case I miss something here, you might check with the tech support.

Thanks for the response, I was making an animatic and in this scenario there is as cg character (streamer/gamer) in a room. Main camera is moving around and gets close to the laptop’s screen. Cg character waves his hand to his followers on the laptop’s screen. We see this from the back of the character. I used camera shader and applied this for the material of screen.

Everything works flawless in the viewport BUT when I try to render this as a video, laptop screen is black as you mentioned. So I rendered the view from the laptop’s cam. and used this as a texture and solved the problem. I wish I could make it easier because if I need to make animation revision, I have to re-render the other view again and again.

This is needed because my scene is heavy and can’t show realtime in viewport. I need to make a playblast and send for approval.

Thanks for the extra information, emregoren.

I can’t change the way it is at the moment. But you could make a suggestion that the Camera Shader might be included at one point.

My best wishes for your production.

You’re welcome, emregoren.

Perhaps you just flatten your character, like in this cheezy little mock-up:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/SkZXGqmRAM7qabkPpqYPsFT8tOpqOB8Jb8QKUpbNqjE

Perhaps that gives you an idea. Maybe place your character into an Instance and set the S.Z to 0.1. The light will work flat on the character. I would need to test how much a Normal map could bring that backā€¦

Enjoy.
