I have an iMac Pro 2017 and just upgraded to Big Sur and running latest version of R23. Radeon Pro Vega 64 16 GB.

Using multi instance mode (as points or even off) is extremely slow and jerky to navigate viewport (clone numbers ~30-40,000 simple spheres. Previously in high Sierra using R22-R23 had no difficulty navigating the scene.

Is this a known issue? Is there a fix?

I have Big Sur 11.2.1 and 11.3.1 here running, and it is fine. So, I can’t reproduce it here.

I believe the issue was that the shapes I was cloning the objects onto were too complex ~70,000 polys each of two objects.
Using simplified objects made it workable.

I use the Multi instances mode with high clone counts/polygon-counts, mostly in point mode only.

However, this sounds more like a stress test than a regular production setup. Enjoy your nice machine.
