Hi Cineversity Team,

I just completed that marvellous “Creating a Coral Reef” tutorial.
Looks pretty amazing.
My Thinking Particles FishSchool works beautifully in my viewport, but doesn’t show up in the final render.
Any ideas ?

Hi nolanscott,

I have sent you an upload link. Images do not tell the full story.

Without a project file, I could ask a lot of questions, and perhaps waste even time on your side.

Question like:

Have you checked if that is the same after caching the Cloner?
Have you rendered the whole sequence?
What you could do, exchange the Fish object with a sphere, for example. Same result?

Cheers

P.S.which tutorial do you refer to. It is not clear. Please use only the Help button to open a new thread here.
It renders this forum into a scattered place otherwise. Thanks for considering.

Hi Dr. Sassmannshausen,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I have run the file with and without caching the Cloner. Nothing in render view.
I have run the whole 500 frame sequence.
If I exchange the fish with a sphere, the sphere shows up in render view.

I am using the Creating a Coral Reef Tutorial:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/creating_a_coral_reef

I have just uploaded the project file TP_Fishschool.c4d to your dropbox.

Thank you for your help.

With kind regards
Nolan

Thanks a lot for the zip file, Nolan, very much appreciated.

Please have a look here:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/wJpYcLKhh0PP7QlflGZjJmAkSilbceVeafF0LjuW3KW

There were some checkboxes on that were not needed, and after unchecking, all looked fine here. Can you confirm that? The exchange if the abc object with a sphere would have shown the source of the problem. This is a quick excluding/exchange problem-solving strategy.

Since I had this file here, I checked the rest. As you can see, it worked before, but it is good practice to keep the information flow in the scene clean. Normally a scene might work, but if any information was not created for that frame, then the information produced a frame before will be used. It is easy to build a chain of such information problems so that elements are many frames behind where they could be. Hence I love to point this out.

Let me know if something else is not as you would like it, I’m happy to look into it.

My best wishes

You’re very welcome, Nolan, thanks for the kind feedback.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

If there is anything else, I’m just a few clicks away…
