Super Simple Question

I’m trying to open a Christmas card using a flat plane and the bend deformer.

I have the card built, the texture maps on and the bend deformer in place. I have the proper bend angle and have sliced the plane in the middle (5 cuts) to allow the card to fold.

It seems I should be able to place the deformer on one half of the card, move it’s pivot point to the cards center and simply rotate the bend but I can’t move the axis of the deformer. Is this not possible or not required?

Should be a piece of cake but i’m wasting time trying to figure this out. I know I could create two separate planes, move the pivot point and do it that way but I’m trying to experiment with different areas of the app and this should be a simple process. What am I not doing correctly?

Hi rcates,

I have sent you an upload link.

I will have a look at it.

Why not Pose Morph? Rotational.

Cheers

P.S.: The Tutorial Forum should receive only new Thread-Entries via the Help Button. Thanks.

I believe I’ve solved it satisfactorily.

As is often the case, the more you think about something the more solutions present themselves.

What I’ve done is select the polys on the upper half (the top of the card and half the slices at the bend), moved the pivot point to the cards center and rotated the upper part of the card.

I know there are multiple ways to address these challenges but being under the gun (and this approach working) I’ll move forward with this solution.

Thank you Dr. Sassi for such a timely response (again).

You’re very welcome, rcates, thanks for the reply.

Yes, there are many ways to do this.
• Deformer [Bend ++, Surface +, Cage ~, Spline - ]
• Pose Morph
• Joints
• Cluster
• Split the object (individual axis per obj.)

But yes, if the deadline is close, playtime is over.

My best wishes for your project.
