I have made a ‘Plane’ (is the photo below). How colour to it a Cinema 4D object like the Plane/Mesh in the video below….

Hi BenSCR,

Here is a project file and screen capture:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/nsLsg9Q8rblWVe3WCIRIl9TFJhbWDt2tRPsR4MLQkAC

The main places for adjustments are pointed out in the screen capture.
The projection of the color gradient material is set to flat. In that way, the elevated parts of the landscape will get one end of the gradient and the lower areas of it the other end of the gradient. You can load presets into the gradient for a different color set up.

The Spherify Deformer, pulls the corners a little bit down, so they are colored differently and allow to center the attention.

By adjusting or even animating the Noise parameter, you increase the appearance heavily.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I’m happy to look into it.

Enjoy.

Please note that the Tutorial forum should only be used with the Help Button below the Tutorial-clip itself. Which sets the headline and things stay organized. For anything Cinema 4D related, the Q&A forum is the central part. (It is easy for me to move it, but it is nice if we don’t have all these “Moved:” links in the forum. Thanks for considering.

P.S.: One more file:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/neAwkjmFORKme6JseO1g8iCi6U2RAOQYrlAuroQ84QI

It uses the Delay Effector, set to Deformer>Points. During the project time, it switched through the three modes of the Effector (for demo purposes).
I found that the lag that it introduces feels more realistic and interesting.

Cheers

Your video etc is great, and is helping. But how do you get the bumps on to the Plane, as your video starts with the bumps already added before adding ‘Noise’ in the materials.

Also is the animation of the colours done by the coordinates via the Shperify, as that’s what I seem to see in your video.

Hi BenSCR,

The “bumps” in the plane are caused by the Displacer Deformer and the Mat.1. It is shown in the first 10 sec. of the screen capture. I can create another screen capture if you like for just this part.

The colors are static, projected as Flat. Perpendicular to the surface. So the color changed when the mesh moves up or down. I will think about how to make that point more clear.

All the best

When you start the file do you.

1. Add a Subdivision Surface

2. Then a ‘Plane’ and add Gouraud Shading Line.
Then Press ‘C’ and Triangulate it.

3. Then add Materials. First with ‘Noise’ then with another with ‘Colour’

4. Add a ‘Shperify’ then a ‘Displacer’ etc

5. Then do I change the coordinates in the Shperify to start the process of animating the texture and colours.

Hi BenSCR,

The clip was meant to show you where you can adjust things, not how to build it. Just pointers. Sorry if that has lead to confusion.

Part 1 Gray/Noise

Project file, Screen-capture.
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/5qZgU1y2dLIcwko0dgLZ8wPdFfxghzhJUn0dFk0UvCC

So, in this post, I want to focus only on the Displacer and the Plane. Not the color.

The Material holds the Noise. Based on the gray values, the Displacer moves the points of the Plane. The more points, the better the results. However, if you have fewer points and use the Subdivision Surface, the result will be smoother. The Subdivision Surface is not needed for this effect.

The Displacer is responsible for the min and max up and down of the points.

Changing the coordinates of the Material Tag changes the Noise position. In that way, you have control over the noise movement. (In FUI terms, the search parameter of the data-landscape in the “scene”)

The Spherify, as mentioned, is just an added effect, not needed.

Color in the next post.

Part 2 Color/Flat

Project Clips, Screen-capture

Anything in this part will not change the Noise nor the result of the Displacer.

The Gradient is placed 90ยบ to the Plane. With a projection of the ‘texture” set to Flat.

Flat means here, one can move that projection in one direction, and it will not change, I show that with a new plane (wide but not tall) and drag it over the landscape. I hope that connects the “ray-direction of Flat.

When I drag the small spheres through that projection, you can see when it changes the color and when not. Each sphere is just an example of a position of the landscape. Up and down changes the color, any other movement keeps the color. Flat is “2D”, and so the direction in which it was set up is like a parallel spotlight, a layer cake, etc. I hope these examples can showcase it.

To be precise, the color is static, with no animation, no change. Since the Plane (Landscape) is animated, it receives based on its hight, different parts of the Gradient.

At the moment you can visualize how Flat projection works, it becomes clear. If there is any question, please let me know.

Cheers

You’re very welcome, BenSCR, thanks for the reply.

If you have some time, enjoy a coffee or tea between the two parts.

Cheers
