could somebody point me in the direction to model soap bubbles on a bar of soap?

Soap-bubbles are quite complex. I have explored the base of it a little bit here:

However, since things move forward, and clever people have great ideas, like this example shows:

I was able to set file _…21.c4d up based on it. Except for the scale, anything needed to know is in the YouTube clip.

The file _…11.c4d is a different approach and much simpler. It uses the position of each “bubble”, stored in a Tracer-Spline, as the source. However, file #11 works only with equally sized spheres!
