You mention that you flip over to “Finder.”  What is a finder?  I am working in Windows.

Hi fmhsketch,

This would be the Windows Explorer or File Explorer.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4026617/windows-10-windows-explorer-has-a-new-name

In case you want to know more what the Finder is:

If there is another question, please let me know.

I was really looking forward to this series to help me get started in Cinema4D in terms of importing SketchUp models, ultimately so I can render in Corona.  But I am frustrated he is using the term “null” and using it quite a bit. I have never worked with that term. I would hope he would explain that term if he is using it.

fmhsketch,

Yes, I can see that it is like a jump into cold water, frustrating. If he stopped at any term he uses to define it in detail, the course would have perhaps ten or twenty times longer, and I would expect others asking for a short version. No course will ever fit the expectations of any artist/user, it is just not possible, everyone has a different background. There is no one size fits all. Just ask, and I will answer. I got that you are frustrated, so, I keep this in mind, no need to waste more of your time to stress this, I really got it! I have had experiences similar to this. Based on my idea of continually learning a new application, to keep this and other impressions while learning fresh. (So far 210+ apps in 27+ years.) So, I know this kind of frustration.

A Null Object is an empty object, it will never show up in any final rendering. It can be used to Group objects, for example, this Null object (Alos calle d then parent) can be moved, rotated, or scaled, and the object under it (called child objects) will follow. Typically a right mouse click on an object or parameter will give you a “fly-out menu”, which has an entry called Help.  In most cases that will lead you to the information needed: (Example)
https://help.maxon.net/us/index.html#ONULL

Perhaps you should try first to learn a little bit more about Cinema 4D.

Let me know what will stop your progress, I hope I can quickly reply.

Cheers

Dr. Sassi:

I have studied lots of Architectural Rendering programs (but not 3DStudio) and have never run into null to much extent. Was just making point to instructor that maybe he was assuming something there that he shouldn’t.  However, I just got great information in his section on Cameras about accessing the “scene” you had set up in Sketchup.  I had been searching and searching for information on that, and so I am thankful for that!

Thanks for the reply, fmhsketch!

You have had addressed a point that is one main concern of all good tutorial-creators: who is my target audience? Let me say thank you for voicing your input. I got over the years the impression that most people want just the Readers Digest version, just get to the point …

I have mentioned it here many times, the basics are crucial. If there is a misunderstood word or just the idea, “I know that” without really knowing a certain point, this will work like a black-hole, soaking a lot of creative energy into it.

Like any good instructional book has a glossary, I wish to have the option to link directly from C4D terms to mini definition videos. Sadly, those Hyperlink setups are very time-consuming to maintain. Hence my suggestion with the right mouse click to get the manual or ask.

There are two alternative methods, 1on1 training or hands-on training. Any question that comes up can be answered instantly, but also here, that has a price-point.

Anyway, I’m glad you found something useful, and if there is anything else, please ask, there are no “stupid” questions”. I will do my best to fill any gaps that show up while learning Cinema 4D.

BTW, I have a intensive background in Architecture, so I hope I can help with any question quickly.

All the best

Hi ariasm64,

Yes, they are mentioned in the video, but obviously nowhere to find.

I have sent an email to the main-admin; she typically knows what to do.

Sorry to have no better answer right now.

All the best

P.S.: I already got a reply, files exist, but obviously, a hick-up in the WEB department had happened with these. Fingers crossed this is soon fixed. Thanks for mentioning it.

You’re very welcome, ariasm64.

Sadly the licenses that I had were not renewed after SketchUp was bought by another company. Otherwise, I would set some files up. Fingers crossed it is fixed soon. Thanks for your understanding and patient.

Cheers
