letters burned in wood

Hello,

I am modeling a tree trunk to use in a bigger project.

I am looking for a way to burn my letters in the wood.
In the final movie I want to animate the words (let them be visible one by one….).

I can’t figure out how to texture the words, so that it looks naturale with my wood texture.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Annet,

Thanks for the file.

I would double the material/texture and apply it in the same way to the text (as the for the trunk). The original wood copy should be a little bit lighter, and the one that burns the text into the wood much darker.

The text itself needs to be just a little bit above the wood, nearly not noticeable higher. In this way, the text can be used as if the texture would be burned.

The progress of the text is based on the Formula Effector. Since each letter has an ID, the simple formula is “If ID is smaller than f: make it visible”. The letter f is a slider in the variable-section.
(Formula Effector: Attribute manager> Effector> Variables).

Thanks, thats seems much better.

I put the formula in the ‘lines’ effects, because I want to have line by line. Not letter by letter.
But I don’t know how to slow down the animation. Witch parameter do I have to change for that?
Is that something in the or in the formula itself?

Thanks for the help!

Annet,

Select the Formula Effector:
Attribute manager> Effector> Variables> [the slider with the f values]

Each line has a single ID. The first line is ID=0, the next line ID=1, etc.
If you place at the start 0 and for the end 9, your animation should work fine.

Project file (place it in the project folder to have the textures …)

All the best

P.S.:
The Formula Effector provides the results of the formula to the parameters. If the formula results in 100% or 1, then the Parameters (e.g., Position, Scale, or Rotation) as entered.
In fact, there is no need for a formula to explore this as a result of a formula that could be just placed into the formula entry field. For example, put a 1 into that field, and the parameters are used as given, in other words, the 1 turns the Formula Effector into a Plain Effector.

A simple formula like ID<f means, if the ID number is smaller then the value provided with f, then this is true or 1 (false is zero). While the effector goes through all given IDs, each clone will receive an individual result.

Thanks for the help.
I see now that each line has a single ID, and how to animate the speed in the formula effector, thanks!

Maybe it’s not possible with this formula, but I like to have some kind of dissolve in between the lines.

At this moment the line comes from nothing to everything (I can animate the speed of the seperate lines) but I want them to show up more slowly, as if they are comming out of the wood.

Maybe its something I have to do within After Effects, but i was hoping this kind of effect i can make also in C4d.

Thanks in advance.

Annet,

This can be doen with just an Effector and the MoGraph Color Shader.

Alternatively (this can be seen as a base, perhaps add noise into the effect)
The slowly burning in effect can be done with a posterize gradient and an animated Colorizer. This can be used in the Transparency Channel or Alpha Channel.

Since you mentioned AfterEffects, this could be done by rendering the scene without text, and one time with only the text. The Text should then be using only the Illumination channel; this can be used as a Layer in the Adjustment Layer.

There are other ways, like with Buffer Pass, but I guess the Illumination way is the fastest here. I have pasted it already into that channel, so you can use it if you like.

My best wishes for your project.

Cheers
