Hello Jonas

Thank you for your Video I like it allot.

When I follow along, I encounter a problem. The Mixamo Control isn’t Rig the default. I have to choose this option.

After 1:38 when you click on animate, you are redirected to the control TAB, where everything is editable.
In my Scene everything is locked at that point. After retargeting I cant drag my Mesh in the Text field.

I hope you can help me

Thanks allot

Greetings Ines

Hello,

What I am wondering is if it is possible to use the same process to make changes in a Mixamo Animations character mouth to enable mouth movement and lip syncing?  Is it possible to do that in C4D R21 and if so how would it be done?

Thank you!

Hi pacificm,

The process is aligned with the Mixamo rig. The provided parts are limited to the elements available in the template.

Any modifications would be manual, as far as I understand the given options.

In short, the needed joints need to be created, constrained to the given Rig. After the Skin Object is disabled temporarily, the new joints need to be weighted, with a clear change of the Character Object-based weight (100% for each point). After “Set Bind Pose”, the Skin object needs to be activated, and all animation for the new Joints will be optional.
That this will need way more attention than the suggested workflow might be clear without extra information.

I think the most straightforward way would be to add a Pose Morph and use this for Facial Expression. Which leaves the Rig untouched and allows it to work independently from it. The given sliders will allow for easy access.

Cineversity has a detailed series of how to create your own templates.
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/creating_a_custom_template/creating_a_custom_template_part_01
This is a series created for Technical Directors, IMHO, and it certainly needs some patience and experience.

I hope that helps.

Cheers

Hi there, I tried following along with this tutorial. However, whenever I select the Animate Tag, C4D creates a lot of new objects and splines.

I am using R23.

All the best,

Hayden.

Hi hfalcon.film,

These are controllers. They are used to move the character into place.

Open a new scene, no Mixamo rig nor an object (polygon character) in the scene, and create the Character Object> Mixamo Rig.
When this is done, click on animate, then make the entire rig visible for this exploration and click on one of these splines. Adjust the spline’s position or Rotation (pos. and/or rot. depend on the body part).

Here is a screen capture of it:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/on79tnZWqcW2klKkhADGtlalaGcD3VpSaMKecKs8xdA

Which made me think if that is at all what you were after, to begin with. In other words, could it be that you were looking at how to apply one Mixamo capture (animation) to another and mix just those?

Here is a series that covers exactly that:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaylist/mixamo_to_cinema_4d_character_workflow/mixamo_to_cinema_4d_character_workflow_series_introduction
This shows that the content of the tutorial and the rig is, for that matter, independent. In fact, the controllers are a crucial part of the rig itself.

I would suggest placing a parent Null to the Mixamo Rig and placing the Animation Tag on that Null for various reasons.

My best wishes

Thank you for such a prompt reply. Sorry, my question was more about how to not get them to show up. In the video atched to this thread they do not show up. In S22 they do not show up for me, however, in R23 they do (I know they are still there in S22, just hidden) From an organisational stand point how do I get it to work like in the video?

All the best,

Hayden.

Hi Hayden,

Please have a look at the Display Tab. You have control over the Character Object items if they appear in the Object Manager or in the Viewports.

More about this is here:
https://help.maxon.net/r23/en-us/Default.htm#html/OCHARACTERBASE-ID_CA_CHARACTER_GROUP_DISPLAY.html#ID_CA_CHARACTER_COMPONENT_HIGHLIGHT_SELECTED

If you set the parameters as in the image below, you will not be bothered with them.

All the best

Ahhh!!! Thank you so much! Such a small thing, yet I couldn’t find it.

You have truly helped me understand the software better.

Thank you.

You’re very welcome, Hayden,

I know that feeling, hence why I try to learn a new application as often as possible to keep that feeling fresh: It helps to answer with an appropriate mindset.

Enjoy.
