Fields and Dynamics

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody can direct me in the right way to go about this. I need help getting my fields to work with my dynamics. I have sphere in a Cloner, Cloner set to linear, count set to 5, position y set to 250. I applied a dynamics tag under the Cloner to make the spheres fall, I have a plane effect-or with scale set to -1 using a linear field on the y that I positioned right under my Cloner in the view-port.

What I am trying to achieve with this is make the spheres scale to zero when they start falling and as they pass the linear filed.

Any help would be really appreciate it. Thanks a million.

Hi k.berraho,

The problem is based on the fact that the Cloner transfers all power to the Dynamic System. All the Cloner “knows” at that point is the original positions of the Clones, not the ones based on the Dynamic.

In this way, we need to harvest the Dynamic information and inherit this into a second Cloner. (The first needs to be set to invisible (Edit/Render).

This will, of course, lead to a dynamic behavior of the clones as if they would not have been scaled. Since your need is here to scale them to zero, that might work.

Let me know if there is any other question, I’m happy to look into it. (If there is a question, please with a project file [zipped], thanks.)

All the best

P.S.: The other way would be to use Xpresso. Since I often got the feedback that artists here are not so eager to go into this, I waited with my posting of this version. PErhaps the option above is already working for the current project.

With this setup, the Field is not part of the Effector! The values of the fields are calculated only and then stored in the MoGraph Weight Tag. The Tag is then used in the Plain Effector to work. This allows for a scale even after the Dynamics has taken over.

Please note that the Dynamics stop evaluating clones when scaled to -1.

Cheers

You’re very welcome, k.berraho, thanks for the feedback.

My best wishes for your project.

ENJOY!

P.S.: if the Linear is set to max, and a freeze is used (auto-update + min), then this will keep the lowest size
