Add keyframe without altering existing curve

Hello,

Is there a way to add a keyframe to an already existing animation curve without altering its current shape?
When I add a keyframe it always seems to alter it with its handles. I was messing around with all sorts of options and couldn’t figure it out!
The reason I ask is because I had the correct sort of motion I wanted, but I needed to just slow down a specific section of it.

What I ended up doing was converting to a motion clip and then aligning the motion curve to my timeline and adjusting the speed there, but that can be very fiddly if you have a long track.

Cheers,
Nik

Hi Nik,

In the Timeline editor, use Create> Add Keyframe.

Screen capture here: [I used r20, as requested]

I think this is working most* of the time better than the Break Tangent and Keep Visual Angle suggestion. However, I think it is good to know both ways, just in case.
*Extreme Tangent settings might create a problem. I suggest here to use the snapshot options to have more control and a reference for repair.

Cheers

P.S. Slowing down while keeping the animation otherwise as it is, means that some parts will be accelerated. Wouldn’t be the Ripple Edit Tool the better way?
Besides that, you could bake the keys and use the Reduced Modification Curve

Hi Dr. Sassi, thank you, I didn’t try that way.
