Animating clones

Hello Sassi - I hope you have enjoyed some holiday time.

I’ve been playing with a basic cloner and fields setup (please see scene file link below ). When moving the plain effector through Z the whole cloner rotates 360 degrees. How can we control (delay?) each individual cloned circle so that at the start of the animation, only the inner circle rotates 360 degrees, followed by the next outer circle and so on giving a staggered appearance? I have tried with the Step effector and delay field but it’s not giving me the desired result.

Thanks in advance, David

Hi David,

Thanks a lot, I hope you had a good time as well.

The problem is based on the position of the clones: They are all the same. In this way, the Plain Effector affects all clones at once.

The remedy is here, to push them either apart, or use a source that has the positions apart and use only the rotation information of this source.

In file …_01.c4d I use a method where the first Effector pushes the Clones apart, then the Plain Effector works, and after that, the clones are pulled back. Since we need here the smallest difference only to make it work, the Falloff moves minimally to achieve the effect.

The file …_11.c4d works differently. The Plain Effector works here only on the Matrix Object. The resulting information is then used via Inheritance Effector. Here the checkboxes for Position and Scale are off, which means it works like a filter, and rotation is the only information passed on.

Last but not least, you asked about the Step Effector.

Let me know if you have any questions, I’m happy to look into it.

Cheers

Thanks for the options here Sassi. I explored all your files and found an interesting result in file _01.c4d when using a cone field oriented in Z+ (see screenshot). With this field I found it is possible to control the timing of the when circles begin rotating using the Inner Offset under Remapping. These fields are mind blowing in possibilities.

Thanks for your help and inspiration this year. I wish you a safe and creative 2020. David.
