Can I change the backface polygons with different color?

I only see the option of backface culling and not of choosing a different display color for backface polygons.

Coming from Maya and Rhino I find it useful to be able to immediately tell if a polygon face is flipped without having to display normals.

Is it possible to do this in C4D or is backface culling the only option?

Hi zulu85,

Typically the colors (while the polygons are selected) are different.

You can set the colors in
Main Menu> Edit> Preferences> Scheme Colors> Editor Colors: Front Facing Tinting/Back Facing Tinting.

While unselected, they stay with the given object color, if not a Material overwrites it.

All the best

P.S.: If you uncheck (View Settings) Selected Only, the Normal indicator will show, while in Polygon Mode, always.

It is a shame that the back face tinting color only works when the polygon is selected so it is cumbersome when you want to quickly scan a scene for inverted polygon faces.

I was looking for something where all I do is rotate around in the viewport and immediately get visual feedback (similar to Maya and Rhino).

The only way to do this in C4D it seems is with backface culling option which works great but is a little jarring sometimes.

Zulu85,

There are two additional things you can do:

Use a material that has a Normal-Direction-shader in it:
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/xQqoNBNpjI14SPLAJxrPuemnzoRkZ381DzGZrmAr7gl

as well as

Contact Maxon and let them know what you need:
https://www.maxon.net/en/support-center
Open a new ticket, and there will be an option to select: Suggestions.

Yes, I know, what works in one application and not in the next is annoying, but if they were all the sameā€¦ wink

Cheers
