Hello, where can I learn how to blend material from a cloner, in min project minute 13, and project minute 21 when I don´t have the octane?
Thank you.

Hi Anunciada,

Here is a scene file that shows a Material setup for random color.

https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/Gze08OCrqRVUOFJ0EUJTCUi4aVqhra3Q9x9DloGXFL9

A screen capture showcasing the color information

Inside of the Color Channel, you will find a MoGraph Color Shader. This shader takes the Clone color to work. The Random Field inside of the Plain Effector is set to color, as you can see in this screenshot.

Please explore the file and let me know if there is anything that needs more information.

All the best

Thank you for the answer. In the webinar siggraph he makes the color of the clones radially in different colors, based on an image in black and white. Not to randomly the color of the clones. Thank you!

Hi Anunciada,

I was under the impression that you needed to know how to get the clone color to be rendered in Cinema 4d’s own render. Anyway, I’m happy to share this:

The Shader Effector or the Shader Field can do this for you. An image that is used will provide a single pixel color that matches the image and the clone position.

If that image is a gray value image, a Colorizer can be used, which maps the Color Gradient to the Gray values of the provided image. Also here one-pixel information only. I write that, as I notice that the expectations are that a picture is supplied to each clone.

Here is an example

Hi Dr Sassi,
Thank you very much for the explanaition, it is what I was looking for. Why do you apply first the solid? And I have also seen that the cloner color is black. Is there a reason?
All that is related to shader, bring image material, alpha channel it´s a complex theme. Are there any concrete cineversity videos where I can learn from this topic? Also how can iluminate a scene where I want it to look as Hologram and how do I texture it? I saw the sigraph from Robyn Haddow but I could´t make a good texture material.

Thank you for the help and your time,I appreciate it.

You’re very welcome, Anunciada, thanks for the reply.

I see that you have explored this file carefully, thank you very much for that!

With the solid first, I introduced the value (the sine curve), and the Shader is then pure color (the color clover). It was more to make a point, please have a look at the file below, it will also work with just one Layer.
https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/share/VT5qy0qsYIi30fhKeoIe3hGIoI8qQCAk7y2F7fqKTB6

The Cloner introduces a Clone Color. Move the color to get white and have an eye on the Clones. They turn into a pastel, then more or less into a faded color, if at all color is left. So, what happens? The Effector> Parameter Color Settings are typically set to Add. Which means that the color that is provided from this Effector will be added to the current Clone Color. If the Cloner Object is set to black, anything you add to it from a single Effector, with show up on the clones as expected. In numbers: black equals zero, any color is above zero, if added, zero plus value = value. Colors are expressed in RGB, so: 0,0,0 + 255, 127, 0 = 255, 127, 0 (Orange)
You can easily see where it would go with the other settings, like subtract, etc.

Where to learn all of that?
Since we have fields, I hesitate to share none-field based tutorials, but allow me to give you this link to start with:
https://www.cineversity.com/vidplaytut/mograph_color_brightness_and_rotation
You might wonder if I missed your question. It looks that way. The most confusion that I noticed over the past 13 years with the shader effector is based (as mentioned above) that the Shader Effector can take images in, but it supplies only a single color value to each clone. No image. Images are used here as information. As in the little math I showed above, values can be combined, or at least calculated with something to get an effect. Images are a relatively intuitive source to create such information (data, information). Keep this in mind when you explore: What information is given at which point, and how is the flow of that information. This is not something one can learn for all possible combinations, which means, it will be an exploration for each new scene.

If you have a question about a different tutorial, please open a new thread with the HELP button below the tutorial, so other arts can find it.

In case there is a question that is only remotely related to a tutorial, please use the Q&A forum.

Either way, I’m happy to look into it. If there is any chance that you can share the time (as in 12:34 min: sec) where something has hit your interest, please do so, thanks!

Enjoy the exploration

You’re very welcome, Anunciada, thanks for the feedback.

There are certainly some parts that need exploration for a while. On end, it is pretty much just the flow of information.

If you have questions that will go beyond the video, please feel free to ask in the Q&A forum.

All the best.
