Hello,
I’m looking for advice on a workflow/pipeline from C4D to Collada (.dae) to Apple’s SceneKit.

Apple/Xcode can import the .dae/Collada format and seems to support animation.  There doesn’t seem to be any recent discussions/tutorials on the workflow from C4D to Collada to SceneKit. Specifically, looking for an export solution that addresses animated content via bone/joint animation, blend-shapes/pose-morph, or PLA support.

I have experience with C4D to FBX to Unity workflows.

Thanks in advance for your help/insights. ( I blame Apple for not being more clear about their .dae support.)

Cheers,
jamie

Hi jamie,

Should I move this to the Tutorial Suggestions?

Yes, Apple could help here a little bit more:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/scenekit/scnscenesource
But they have a forum for developers
https://forums.developer.apple.com/search.jspa?q=collada+scene+kit

I saw a course on Lynda.com about Scene kit, would that work for now?

I would always export and then import the “.dae” file to a new scene to see what has been included. Of course, I guess a decade ago I have suggested the same for FBX and at that time things were quite different. Collada feels more mature than anything a decade ago.

Sorry, I haven’t used Scene Kit at all. I just did a little research based on your question. Going by most fora-answers, three years ago there were problems but it seems that it should work fine now.

All the best

A Cineversity tutorial would be great.
I saw the course on lynda too. I’ll revisit that to see if it covers what I’m missing.

I have done a few rudimentary export/import .dae tests to see what features stick around. Still making notes; I’ll try to share what I find works reliably.

cheers

Thanks for the feedback, jamie (or Jamie).

I have moved the thread to tutorial suggestions.

I think a lot of this might be as well connected to Swift? Which is on my long wish/to-do list.

Fingers crossed some of our CV-Tool developers have a some more to share than I can, the CV-AR plug in motivates that thought. grin

My best wishes for your project.
