More accurately preview your final render with these viewport options.

The viewport display quality has been significantly improved in R18. Reflection preview means that you no longer will have an all black viewport when using Reflectance based materials. SSAO helps to add contrast to your viewport, and is an incredible aid in modeling. Realtime GPU-Based tessellation and displacement means you can accurately place cameras near displaced surfaces without rendering test frames.

Cinema 4D Release 18 introduces reflectance previews, screen space ambient occlusion, and real-time GPU based tessellation and displacement. All of this adds up to significantly improved viewport image quality. Here is a scene that I've pulled from the content browser and as you would see it in R17, it's really not much to look at. It appears to be a largely black scene with a few gray objects. Now, if I go to my options tab here and turn off textures, we'll see that it's actually a complex assortment of gears. And if we start to render, we'll see that we're preparing, we're raycasting, and I might be looking at this one little section render for quite some time before I even come to find out what this thing really looks like in the end. Now, in R18, I have access to a new reflections preview, so I'm going to turn my textures back on, go to options and turn on reflections. Now, it's going to take a moment because what it's doing is rendering all of my material previews taking into account the current texture on my sky object. And as I rotate around my scene, I see that I get this nice environment map reflection on all of my objects. There's even different amounts of blurriness, multi-layered reflections. All of this is coming through. Even the color of my gold. Now, this preview is achieved in a way very similar to the way the art shader works. Basically what's happening is our material preview ball is being rendered using the settings we see here in editor. And the reflectance preview is currently 256 by 256. So, a 256 pixel image is being rendered and then based on the angle of a given polygon on my model, it's sampling that point in this texture preview and applying it to my surface. And that's what allows us to get these really fast, accurate looking reflections. Now, they are not actually reflections. They are environment maps, so we're not going to be able to see the exact placement of objects in our scene and in fact, if I was to apply one of these materials to a sphere, for example, you would notice that as I rotate around, the reflection is exactly the same on the edges. So, that is a limitation of this system, but the real benefit is that it gives us a preview of our multi-layered reflectance. And more than anything, it saves us from the terror of a completely black viewport. Now, I'm going to turn off my textures again and give us back this sort of flat white looking view. And this is pretty similar to what you're going to see whenever you're modeling. If you've got a model, you don't have time to really texture it, and as a result, the form is a little hard to make out at times. So, if we go to options here and turn on SSAO or screen space ambient occlusion, we're going to get a very fast rendering ambient occlusion effect. And the benefit of this is that we can now see some shading in our objects and even more importantly, we can see when two objects are close to each other. And that's really useful when you're modeling to help you detect when your two objects have intersected. Now, if you want to tweak these settings, you can hit Shift+V on your keyboard, go to the enhanced OpenGL tab, and look in here for SSAO. So, if we adjust the radius, that is the maximum distance that it's going to look for another object. Anything beyond that will not register as any amount of black on your screen. The depth range here is a product of his being a screen space ambient occlusion, so that's why it's rendering so fast. It is not a real ambient occlusion calculation. It's not taking into account the 3D depth. It's just pretending that every single polygon that it encounters on this screen is actually a cube that's about 500 centimeters thick. And that allows it to do these calculations very quickly and give us a pretty accurate preview, but you can sometimes see paper thin objects not represented properly or if you crank it up too much, it looks like every single object is about to touch every other object. So, you generally want to set this to about the average size of a given component in your scene. Next up is this power option. And if you adjust this setting, you can increase the strength of your ambient occlusion effect. Now, generally, you're not going to want anything above probably five, but it can help to really show what's going on here. Fine details will help to emphasize the smaller objects in your scene. And this blur option is really helpful for removing this sort of offset printing effect that can come as a result of not having sufficient samples. So, I would say turn on blur and keep your samples low so that things move nice and quick. And set your power back down to something like one or three. Now, we can actually layer this on top of our reflections as well. So, I'm just going to turn that back on, turn on our textures as well, and now we've got something that's got real-time reflections as well as the contrast added by that screen space ambient occlusion. And while it is not fully render quality, it is really quite impressive what you can get in a largely real-time appearance here. And if I just dolly out as we look at this, we can see our animation, and just imagine this as a test you might send off to a client. You can get some really good looking results and with the right settings and the right materials, you might even be able to pull off a finished motion graphics piece just using the hardware renderer. Next up, I want to talk about a really fun feature and that is the new viewport tessellation. So, you've always known or you perhaps have known for a while now, that in the displacement channel, you can load in an image and that will move the points of your object. And we even have this thing called sub polygon displacement, which will take your object and subdivide it at render time, so that you don't have to work with a slow viewport caused by having so many polygons on your model when you displace it. Now, in order to preview it in real-time in version 17, you use the displacer deformer and if you have a sufficiently high-res object, you'll get a real-time preview. But that means you have to subdivide your object or put it into a subdivision surface. And it's a little limiting. Now, in Release 18, we can offload that task in real-time to our GPU. So, I'm going to go to options and turn on tessellation. And now, I can dolly in and I see in real-time the effect of that sub polygon displacement or something very similar to it. Now, the sub polygon displacement level does not actually control this viewpoint tessellation. That's controlled in this editor tab and in fact, when he turn it on, by default, you won't see any tessellation. You have to turn it on by a per material basis. So, the mode here I'm going to change from none, typically, to uniform and then you can crank up this level as needed on your object. Now, there is also a projective option here and that adaptively subdivides based on how much of your screen a given part of your model is taking up. And that can be a good option as well. Now, in addition to this, you can layer back in your screen space ambient occlusion. And now, you can really see the power of screen space ambient occlusion for helping to reveal the form of your objects. We have a much better sense of what this thing actually looks like. Now, I can also take what I've done here and layer in some reflectance. So, I'm going to take some preset materials here, I'm going to drag this guy onto my space sphere, and this red option, I'm going to drag onto my propulsion arms. And now, this is all being rendered in real-time. I've got a nice looking reflection, I've got my luminance, I've got this incredible polygon depth here. And this is way more telling in terms of shot composition, especially if I want to get in tight to something like this, than what our texture free preview looks like. Now, this is great if you want a very fast viewport and you want to be able to play through your animation and test your animation. This is perfect for that, but when you want to audition final looks, just turn on reflections, SSAO, tessellation, and your textures and you can get some pretty great looking previews.
Agora vamos ver a opção "Power" (força).
