In this presentation, Casey Hupke of Zoic Studios pays homage to Final Fantasy 7, demonstrating techniques for creating the iconic meteor blast from the game.

You’ll see how the shockwave is created using Displacer and animated noise in World Space. R16 Reflectance is used to texture the shockwave, which is completed using a MoGraph Cloner, the Random and Step Effectors.

In creating the Meteor, you’ll see how Fracture combines with MoGraph effectors for an explosive effect, and how displacement is used to create the rock-like appearance.
