Import and Extrude Adobe illustrator Paths

Cinema 4D Lite can open Adobe illustrator Paths. Just make sure you save the correct file from Adobe illustrator. Use these paths inside Cinema 4D Lite to Create 3D logos, or anything else you want, without any restrictions.

- One of the advantages of Cinema 4D Lite is that it's very compatible with other Adobe software. Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard for vector graphics, so it's very possible that you already own it and know how to use it. If that's the case, then pay close attention, as this tutorial will explain how you can import Adobe Illustrator vector graphics inside Cinema 4D Lite. The process is pretty straightforward. Although you must remember that we can only import vector shapes, but not their color, gradient, mask, stroke, thickness, etc. Let's open an Illustrator file. Here, we have my vector masterpiece, which is basically just some fonts that have been made outlines. So imagine if this is something actually good-looking, because in this case it's not. All we have to do is Save As. Name it "Adobe Illustrator #2", Save, and this is the important part. The version needs to be Illustrator 8. Press Okay, and in Cinema 4D Lite, let's just open it. Open, #2, Open, and just press Okay, and there you have it. Now, what I'll do is I'm going to select this, zero out the coordinates, press H to frame it, and it's right in the middle of my 3D world. How do I extrude it? Well, let's see. I'm going to create an Extrude Generator, and I'm going to drop this under as a child. Now, this is the whole hierarchy. Each letter is its own spline, and Cinema 4D Lite is clever enough to combine splines which create the same letter. I'll tell you how that's done later on. Now, you can see that although we've made the whole hierarchy a child of the Extrude object, we do not have an Extrude. So many of you will just close down Cinema 4D Lite and go to bed, but you don't have to do that. Select it, go to the Object tab, and just activate the hierarchal. This will take all the splines underneath the Extrude and extrude them. Just like with any other extruded spline, you can go and add all the favorite tidbits of the Extrude Generator. So you can add Fillet Caps and make it five and two, and five, and two. I'm actually tabbing to the next field. Press Enter, and I can do something funky like Convex or Concave. Lovely, and there you go. Here are the Cinema 4D Lite Illustrator Chronicles. You are now the master of 3D Illustrator vector files, and I find that extremely cool.
